Jeep Launches the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk: What’s New

The 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is a hybrid SUV with real four-wheel-drive hardware, and its details are now public. For Saskatchewan shoppers who want fuel savings without giving up trail capability, here is what the Trailhawk brings.

This piece covers the confirmed power, the standard off-road gear, the design changes, and what to expect on ordering.

What the Cherokee Trailhawk Confirms Today

The Trailhawk pairs a 1.6 L turbocharged four-cylinder with a hybrid system. The engine makes 177 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, and the system output is 210 hp and 230 lb-ft. An eCVT power-split transmission sends power to the wheels, and the fuel is regular unleaded.

The battery is a compact 1.08 kWh unit that charges through brake regeneration. Fuel use is rated at 7.5 L/100 km combined, a Jeep brand estimate. The fuel tank holds 51.9 L.

The off-road hardware is where the Trailhawk separates itself. A two-speed power transfer unit gives a 2.92 low range and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio, so steep, loose or rocky climbs do not need constant brake work. Jeep Active Drive II 4x4 with Lock Mode and an electronic locking rear axle are standard.

Selec-Terrain offers five modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and Rock. Steel skid plates guard the front axle, wiring and fuel tank, and a separate plate protects the hybrid battery.

A 2.5 cm (1-inch) suspension lift, plus unique spring and damper tuning, delivers a 45-point Ramp Travel Index improvement over other Cherokee models. That test measures suspension flexibility and axle articulation. The Trailhawk is also the only SUV in its class with a 609 mm water fording rating.

Design and Cabin Changes

The front fascia is unique to the Trailhawk, with a gloss black upper section that helps the approach and departure angles. A gloss black accent also sits on the rear liftgate. Red tow hooks mount at the front and rear, and an anti-glare Trailhawk graphic runs across the hood.

The wheels are 17-inch units wrapped in 245/65R17 Nexen all-terrain tires. Two wheel designs are offered.

Inside, Mantis Green upholstery carries red accent stitching and an embossed logo. The shift dial wears a Black Spun Aluminum finish, and a Radical Red bezel surrounds the transmission dial, a detail shared with Wrangler Rubicon.

What Matters for Shoppers

The Trailhawk carries most of the Overland-level comfort gear as standard. That includes a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, LED headlamps and taillamps, and fog lamps. Power heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, memory seating and mirrors, and a foot-activated power liftgate are also standard.

Three optional packages add more:

  • Sun and Sound Package: Dual-Pane Sunroof and Premium Alpine Audio System.
  • Trailering Package: unlocks the 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg) towing figure.
  • Advanced Pro Tech Group: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front and rear camera washers and a 360-degree camera.

For daily use, the cabin seats five. Cargo space measures 835.1 L behind the second row and 1,760.7 L with the seats folded. The liftover height is 918 mm.

The Trailhawk is also a focused choice for a heavier hauler. If you tow regularly beyond 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg), the larger Grand Cherokee Trailhawk tows up to 6,200 lbs (2,812 kg) and offers 28.9 cm of ground clearance, with a 324 hp turbocharged 2.0 L four-cylinder. The Cherokee Trailhawk suits the shopper who values hybrid efficiency alongside a 4x4 system with low range.
